Senior SPDF Commander Tito Biel Chuor and Captain Marko Liah defected to Khartoum

As usual the Western Upper Nile information desk is always at work and do always closely follow up the occurances of events in South Sudan and among the leaders of people of Southern Sudan.

It was late this afternoon of 29 January 2002 when our information desk staff officer discover that the said above officers were at Juma Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Sudan Airways plane being smugled out by Sudan embassy senior officials to Kharoum, Sudan, he could not believe his eyes and return to office with deep surprise and astonishment.

Who are they

1.0. Cdr. Tito Biel Chuor

The famous Commander Tito Biel Chour, was the deputy governor and deputy military commander of Liech State (former SSIM/A structures) or Unity State (Government of Sudan structures), the governor was Cdr. Paulino Matiep Nhial. Tito deutised to him between 1997-1999 when a full-scale war broke out between him and his boss governor Paulino Matiep, whereas, Paulino was the governor from 1991-99 before he fully became a well known GOS sponsored militia general in Western Upper Nile.

Tito was under direct dirctives of Dr. Riek Machar, the Chairman & Commander -in- Chief of the defunct SSIM/A. Tito a close relative and loyalist to Dr. Riek he thought that he was maintaining the status quo and defending Riek’s leadership against Paulino Matiep and any body else whom he thought was opposing Riek’s leadership, their close relationship went on up to Khartoum peace agreement era. Cdr.

Tito Biel fought furiously with Cdr. Peter Gatdet who was then the chief of staffs for operations of General Paulino Matiep. The fight of these two guys brought the rich Western Upper Nile region to ruin up to the present day, however, when you try to reason with them to day on the destruction of Western Upper Nile, they just simply tells you that they were just executing the war of Dr. Riek Machar and Paulino Matiep. Tito was defeated by Peter Gatdet and Riek transfer him to Pagak in Eastern Upper Nile region, otherwise, Tito remained loyal to Dr. Riek until 29 January 2002. By the way, Tito, Riek and Marko are all relatives from Dok Nuer Tribe of Western Upper Nile Leer Province.

2.0. Capt. Marko Liah

Marko was a personal body guard of Dr. Riek Machar for years since he was a a private soldier and almost grew up in Dr. Machar’s hand. Marko was even wounded in his leg last year 2001 when they were besiged and attack by “Lekpiny guerrilas” of Cdr. Chayot from Nuer Gajaak of

Longuchuk Eastern Upper Nile, some times being refered to them as part of Thora-Jikany and all are SPDF defectors who are dissatisfied of SPDF leadership style.Captain Marko became the victim when he was trying to cover Dr.Machar in exchange of his dear life for him.

Why have they defected to Khartoum

They have defected as a protest to Nairobi declaration, the 6th January, 2002 Unity declaration between SPDF and SPLM/SPLA which was negotiated and signed by the two leaders Dr. Riek Machar of SPDF and Dr. John Garang of SPLM/SPLA.

Tito and many others who are still silent around Dr. Machar were very angery when they heard the news of SPDF/SPLM mereger; because the SPDF leadership was not invoved in the negotiating process accept Dr.Riek alone for his movement and signed it after 12 hours deal with Garang. They felt neglected, abandoned, betrayed by Riek and had no purpose to fight for for all these years against their Dinka brothers.

They said this Garang trick to destroy Nuer again and we must not accept it and must be fought out by all means including the government of Sudan (GoS) means and that is why the two gentlemen perfer to use this route to let their ends meets.

What are they going to do then?

As soon as they arrive Khartoum they will be flown to Bentiu and join his former command which is now under Cdr. James Liah Diu and Peter Par Jiek who have already shown their rejection to Nairobi declaration. See Jan 001/001/2002 report dated on 25/01/02.

What will happen in Western Upper Nile?

· Mess and destruction of the entire human kind of Western Upper Nile region.

· The GOS will celebrate by taking control of more territories and deploy his forces on them.

· Flow of oil in the eyes of the new SPLM/SPLA.

Who is to be blame for all these problems?

No one else accept the Ph.D holder, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhuorgon?????????????
