Dear Friends of South Sudan,

There was a car accident yesterday, Saturday, May 5, 2001, near Pakot and Papenguira and north of Kitali. The car was taking the leaders of the Presbyterian Church of Sudan in the liberated area of South Sudan. It is reported that the car went out of control of the driver and crashed into another car killing instantly Rev. William Gajung, former Treasurer. Rev. John Chuol Chan, Interim Moderator and Rev. Peter Rit Machar, former Moderator, are in coma. Cdr. Peter Bol Kong is also in coma. They are in Khartoum Hospital at Papenguria. Three persons are safe. The pastors were on their way to South Sudan for the General Assembly of PCOS that was fixed for May 7.

UPDATE: we received the following on May 25

Both Rev. John Chuol Chan, and Rev. Peter Riet Machar are still in the hospital. They told me that Rev. Machar is till in critical conditions. He is not talking. But Rev. Chan can talk but he can't get up. So we still need a lot of prayers for these men. Thanks a lot for those who have been praying.

    Blessings,

    Julia
