July 24, 2000

Dear Friends of Southern Sudan,
Last week both Wal and Julia Duany attended a conference on "Human Rights, Democracy, and Development in the Transition in Sudan". The conference took place in Kampala, Uganda, and was convened by the Committee of the Civil Project in Sudan and hosted by the Pan African Movement. Conferees discussed the challenges of human rights, democracy and development in the coming transition to peace in Sudan. Wal and Julia remain in Kampala, talking with SPLA people and others, urging them to support the People-To-People peace process in southern Sudan. They ask that we pray for courage and that God would open hearts. Wal and Julia will return to Nairobi soon. Julia will return to the US in mid-August.
